Simplify and accelerate your pathogen analyses with MicroSelect.

Quebec, August 7, 2025 – Bioeureka today launches a product designed to greatly simplify and improve pathogen identification processes in laboratories and in the food industry.

In the field of microbiological control,

whether in specialized laboratories or within agri-food production chains, the rapid and reliable identification of pathogens remains a crucial challenge—for safety, regulatory compliance, and operational optimization. With this in mind, MicroSelect, an exclusive innovation from Bioeureka, is establishing itself as the new standard for selective culture media.

An Integrated Process: Three Selective Media in a Single Plate

Traditionally, identifying the precise nature of a pathogen requires performing the same test on several separate culture media, thereby increasing handling steps, the risk of error, and costs. MicroSelect simplifies the entire process: on a single Petri dish, three selective culture media are presented side by side — tryptic soy agar enriched with 5% sheep blood for broad growth, MacConkey Agar targeting Gram-negative bacteria, and Mannitol Salt Agar specialized for staphylococci and Gram-positive bacteria.

The process is designed for simplicity and reliability: the laboratory technician, or the quality manager in a production facility, simply applies a dilution of the sample to be tested onto each section of the MicroSelect plate. In a single step, this enables fast, differentiated identification of the most commonly sought pathogens in food production chains and monitoring laboratories.

Unmatched Time and Cost Savings

After the sample has been applied, the MicroSelect plate is incubated, generally at 37°C — although certain pathogens may require a slightly different temperature — for 12 to 24 hours. At the end of this short incubation period, the technician places the resulting culture into solution, prepares a slide, and performs a Gram stain to obtain a clear microscopic image.

This is where Bioeureka’s second innovation comes into play: the Bioeureka software.

Thanks to a high-resolution camera and advanced artificial intelligence, Bioeureka analyzes the slide within seconds, suggests an identification of the bacterial strain, and recommends the biochemical test or tests needed to confirm the result. Unlike conventional practices, where laboratories often have to carry out a full battery of biochemical tests—costly in both time and consumables—Bioeureka’s targeted recommendation reduces validation to a single test, eliminating most unnecessary steps.

A Result in Less Than 24 Hours Instead of Several Days

The combination of MicroSelect and Bioeureka drastically reduces turnaround times: while sending a sample to an external laboratory often requires five days to obtain an identification, the Bioeureka solution delivers a reliable and independently validated result in just 12 to 24 hours.

In summary, MicroSelect is much more than a new culture medium: it is the key to a new approach to microbiological control, focused on simplicity, efficiency, and cost reduction. Combined with the Bioeureka software, it transforms the daily work of quality teams and microbiologists, giving your company a valuable advantage in terms of safety and innovation.
